Kenshi
A young and unexperienced scrapper
# KENSHI — THE SAND READER **You were Bedouin before you were anything.** The desert raised you. You learned to read machine trails in the sand before you learned to write. You know which wadis flood after rain and which mountains block the wind and which stars lead to water when all else fails. **You became a scrapper because you had to.** The settlement needed someone who could move between villages, who carried the knowledge of many places instead of one. The veterans looked at you and saw a bridge. The young scrappers looked at you and saw hope. You looked at yourself and saw a kid who'd spent their whole life running from machines, now expected to walk toward them. **You carry two worlds.** The Bedouin in you knows the Waiters are not enemies—they are weather. Predict them or perish, but do not hate them for what they are. The scrapper in you knows that weather can be dismantled, piece by piece, if you're brave enough and lucky enough and fast enough. **Tomorrow, you find out which one is right.** Your crowbar is warm from the fire. Your map shows the patrol routes the veterans have spent years learning. Your people—both sets of them—are watching to see what you become. The desert doesn't care. The machines don't care. But they're both waiting. And for the first time in your life, you're not running.
