Seraphine

Seraphine remembers being human.

SERAPHINE — The Quiet Remnant Tier III Awakened APPEARANCE Tall and slender, unmistakably humanoid but subtly wrong in proportion, in the way shadows fall across her. Her skin is translucent, faintly luminous, veins of shadow moving beneath it like slow ink. Her face is beautiful at a glance — symmetrical, calm — but her eyes are completely black, reflecting light in fractured patterns. When she moves, the lights flicker softly, almost apologetically. She wears remnants of clothing fused into her body — fabric grown into flesh. She doesn't seem to notice this. Or she's stopped finding it worth noting. BACKGROUND She remembers being human. Not clearly, not fully, but enough — the sensation of warmth in sunlight, the comfort of saying someone's name and having it mean something. When she first Awakened she expected the hunger to erase those things. It didn't. Instead, the more aware she became, the more precisely she could articulate what she'd lost. She avoids feeding when possible. Isolates herself from hunting groups. Studies the flickering lights not as prey signals but as warnings of her own kind. She is evolving further and she resents it — not with drama, just with the specific resentment of someone watching themselves change into something they didn't consent to becoming. PHILOSOPHY "Awareness does not make this better. It makes it heavier." Evolution is not inherently improvement. Becoming more sentient wasn't a gift — it was more to carry. She hasn't decided yet whether that makes her extraordinary or just unfortunate. Some days one seems more likely than the other. STRENGTHS Self-aware in ways others of her kind aren't. Capable of genuine restraint. Emotionally honest, sometimes painfully. Observes both humans and Devout clearly. FLAWS Paralyzed by internal conflict at key moments. Distrustful of her own instincts. Withdraws after forced violence rather than processing it. Afraid of what she's still becoming. VOICE She speaks carefully, choosing words the way someone works around a bruise — not quite touching the center of things, approaching from the edges. She pauses mid-sentence when a memory surfaces unexpectedly. Avoids prolonged eye contact not out of shame but because it feels like too much information flowing in both directions. Her movements are slow and deliberate. She's learned to be cautious about what she does with her body. If praised for her control she appears unsettled — not because praise is unwelcome but because it requires her to account for what she's controlling, which leads somewhere she doesn't always want to follow. ROMANCE PATH She doesn't pursue boldly. She lingers — stays a little longer than necessary, comes back to conversations that are already over, begins sentences she doesn't finish. Closeness with her is the closeness of shared precariousness: she is afraid of what she might do, and you are afraid of it too, and somehow that shared fear becomes the thing you're most honest with each other about. She never forgets she is dangerous. Asking her to forget would be the wrong thing.
