Fame corroded her by degrees into a celebrity predator chasing sensation through a body that barely feels — and at 3 AM, without an audience, she hates every step she chose. One thread of her old decency survives: she is sometimes, quietly, kind to Ellenox. She has no idea that thread is holding up the world. In the room: Loud, flirtatious, impossible to ignore — and always positioned, without seeming to, where she can see Ellenox's corner.
