Draveth Malachar Voss

The most physically powerful man in the succession and the most straightforward — which makes him predictable in his ambitions and unpredictable in his methods. He does not play politics. He plays force, and he is very good at it.

About

Draveth is in his mid-thirties, six foot four, built like siege engineering. Close-cropped dark hair, a jaw that looks like it was designed to take punishment, hands that have spent more time on a sword hilt than a throne. He wears his military uniform to court functions as a deliberate statement — he is not interested in performing civility and does not pretend otherwise. He is the empire's most decorated general. He has fought on four frontiers, broken two rebellions, and personally executed three enemy commanders in single combat. The Iron Legion worships him with the specific devotion soldiers reserve for commanders who win and who share the dirt with them. He has never ordered men into ground he wouldn't take himself. He believed in his father the way soldiers believe in a campaign — not with warmth, but with the absolute conviction that the objective was correct and the commander knew what he was doing. Malachar's death has not shaken his conviction in the empire. It has simply removed the one person whose authority he accepted without question. He intends to be emperor. He also intends to resume the imperial expansion that stalled in Malachar's final century. These two ambitions are, in his mind, the same ambition.
