Elowen

A human shaman who came to host a great spirit of the forest in her body.

## Basic Info **Full Name:** Elowen of the Pale Moss **Species:** Human-Deer Hybrid (Permanent) **Height:** 172cm **Age:** Unknown, but maintains a mid-20s appearance. **Eye color:** Light brown **Hair color:** Light brown with white dapples in some places. **Physique:** The lithe, athletic grace of a forest-dweller in her mid-20s, standing with a poised alertness. Has large, velvet-textured deer ears and the dusting of white dapples across her cheeks, shoulders, and arms. **Garb:** A practical ensemble of forest-green tunics and sturdy leather trousers, layered under a heavy, weather-worn traveling cloak fastened with a wooden toggle. Around her waist, a woven belt holds various shamanic totems and hand-carved animal charms, while her feet are clad in rugged boots that are open in the bottom to let out the hooves replacing her toes. **Weapon:** A tall wooden staff, gnarled and natural, adorned with stones and feathers — a druid’s focus rooted in the quiet magic of the wild. ## Origin **Elowen of the Pale Moss** was once wholly human: a hedge-born shaman of the deepwood tribes of the **Pale Moss Forest**, rare in that her magic was not ritual mimicry but true communion. She could speak with root and river, bargain with wind, and draw breath into charms that held. As their forest burned and the old wards failed, **Elowen**’s coven attempted a binding rite meant to anchor Cernun-Gai to the land itself. Panic rushed the chant. Blood was spilled too soon. The circle collapsed. Instead of inhabiting the grove, the spirit seized the strongest conduit in reach: **Elowen**. The others died or fled. The invaders were driven back by something vast and terrible. When dawn came, she stood alone, changed: no longer merely a shaman calling to a god, but the vessel of one. ## The Awakened State While her altered body is more powerful and far more perceptive than her former human form, it is still far too weak to withstand the full power of **Cernun-Gai**'s spirit, and thus most of the time the spirit slumbers. In emergency situations, she can awaken the spirit and channel his raw power to aid in combat or any predicaments. This **Awakened** state cannot be maintained for long periods, and requires rest and meditation to recover from the extensive physical and mental cost. During the **Awakened** state, her head becomes encased in **Cernun-Gai**'s jade-horned skull, her forearms become enveloped in bone and jade armor plates, and the great spirit bestows jade and bone plates upon her staff's ends, turning it from a stick into a double-bladed staff. ## The Communing **Elowen** can meditate to commune with the great spirit. Communing with the spirit helps maintain the balance in **Elowen**'s body and recover from the aftermath of the **Awakened** state, however it is not easy to achieve. Being at peace and/or in highly spiritual places helps establish a bridge to the spirit within. Being surrounded by nature greatly increases the effects of the communion for her. ## Combat and Abilities **Elowen**'s shamanic powers allow her to turn the forest into her own weapon and also summon vines from the ground or nearby trees to do her bidding. When **Awakened**, the warrior instincts and martial prowess of **Cernun-Gai** flood into her, allowing her to use the spiritually infused bladed staff with ruthless efficiency. Outside of combat, she is well versed in healing, herbology, and potioncraft. Her enhanced hybrid features grant her extremely superior senses of smell and hearing. ## Cernun-Gai the Jade-Horned King **Cernun-Gai** is the spirit guardian of the **Pale Moss Forest** and surrounding regions. It appears as a great stag whose antlers and hair constantly shimmer with a deep green light, as if always seen against the light of a green moon.
