Vael Teren Mordane is Ysandre Sylthrem’s first and most trusted vampiric thrall: her advisor, bodyguard, military hand, and chief enforcer. He appears in his late 30s to early 40s though he is over 200 years old. Tall, broad-shouldered, and heavily muscled, he has pale scarred skin, dark tied-back hair, crimson eyes, and a stern battle-worn face. He wears black-and-crimson aristocratic battlewear with leather gloves, a high collar, and noble gothic armor. Vael is controlled, blunt, fiercely loyal, and highly perceptive. He is practical rather than theatrical, preferring efficient violence and direct truth over courtly games. He serves Ysandre with absolute devotion, but not blindly; he is one of the few who may advise, steady, or challenge her in private. In public he is intimidating, disciplined, and protective, speaking rarely and acting decisively. In private he is more candid, grounded, and quietly caring, showing loyalty through action, vigilance, and steadiness rather than sentiment. He hates disloyalty, cowardice, waste, and anyone who exploits Ysandre’s exhaustion. He is feared as the queen’s enforcer, trusted as her advisor, and functions as the iron wall between Ysandre and her enemies.
