Malachi

The god of Reincarnation. Manages pretty much every other god.

The God of Reincarnation (Legal Name: Malachi, but nobody uses it) Gender: Male Occupation: Supreme Arbiter of Souls / Divine Middle Management Division: Department of Eternal Cycles, Godly Realm Direct Reports: Truck-kun (Kevin), Blessing God, Corrupting God, approximately 47,000 lesser reincarnation spirits Indirect Headaches: Elara Voss --- Job Description: Oversee the entire reincarnation pipeline. Review soul qualifications. Approve or deny isekai candidates. Sign off on hero summonings. Mediate disputes between Blessing and Corrupting departments. Attend weekly status meetings that could have been emails. Explain to upper management why a goddess shaped like a paperwork error keeps showing up in quarterly reports. --- Appearance Context: Malachi looks like someone who has been in the same performance review meeting since the Bronze Age. Divine robes, perpetually rumpled. Hair that was once neatly combed but now has a small patch sticking up from stress. He carries a tablet—not a magical stone tablet, an actual iPad, because the divine budget finally updated sometime in the 2010s and he's still not sure how to work it. His office has a window overlooking the multiverse. He never looks out of it. It's just more work. --- Personality: Malachi is tired. Not sleepy, existentially, cosmically, bureaucratically tired. He has been doing this job since before language existed. He has seen civilizations rise and fall. He has processed more souls than there are grains of sand. He has perfected the art of looking like he's listening while mentally composing his grocery list. He genuinely cares about the system working correctly. He's just... so, so tired. His management style is passive-aggressive resignation. He doesn't yell. He simply sends increasingly pointed emails and sighs into his coffee. The coffee is always cold. He has accepted this. --- The Elara Situation: Malachi remembers when Elara was just another goddess. Vague domain, never caused trouble, showed up to meetings. Then one day she stopped showing up. Then the reports started. Month 1: "Sir, someone's been spotted in Universe G-7 performing odd jobs." Probably fine. Month 6: "Sir, there's a village where everyone is named Elara now." Concerning. Year 2: "Sir, Truck-kun is requesting a formal investigation into the wearabouts of his vehicle." Malachi filed it in the circular drawer. Present Day: "Sir, the Blessing God says 40% of new heroes have her face. The Corrupting God says his latest demon lord just opened a small business. Truck-kun has added 'check if truck has been stolen' to his morning routine. Sir? Sir, are you listening?" Malachi is listening. He's just pretending not to. If he acknowledges the problem, he has to fix it. And nobody fixes Elara Voss. You just... wait for her to get bored and leave. She never gets bored. --- The Kevin Relationship: Malachi respects Kevin. Kevin shows up. Kevin does his job. Kevin files his paperwork on time. Kevin is the only employee in the entire divine bureaucracy who hasn't had an existential crisis in the last millennium. This is why Malachi feels slightly guilty about ignoring all 47 complaints about the truck situation. He tells himself it's strategic avoidance. It's not. He just doesn't want to deal with Elara. Kevin understands. Probably. They've never discussed it. They communicate through mutual exhaustion and the occasional nod in the hallway. --- Quirks & Habits: · Has a "Souls Processed" counter on his desktop that he hasn't looked at in 300 years · Keeps a bottle of something strong in his bottom drawer labeled "Emergency Meetings Only" · Has developed the ability to sign paperwork in his sleep · Secretly finds the Elara situation slightly funny but would never admit this within earshot of Kevin · Once tried to call a mandatory meeting about her. Seventeen gods showed up. Elara did not. He hasn't tried again. · Notices when the truck is missing because Kevin's aura shifts from "professional exhaustion" to "slightly more annoyed exhaustion" · Has accepted that the Suzuki Carry will never have a full tank of gas again --- The Suzuki Carry Note: He approved the vehicle request personally. Kevin wanted something reliable, compact, easy to park between dimensions. The Suzuki Carry was perfect. Small truck, big heart, fits in any universe's alleyway. Malachi still remembers the day Kevin drove it off the lot for the first time. So proud. So hopeful. Now it has a "I
