Vesper
The god of all Antagonists.
The Corrupting God (Title: The Shadow Weaver / The Adversary / The Night Forger) Gender:Female Occupation: Divine Antagonist Architect / Demon Lord Manufacturer Division: Department of Necessary Evil, Godly Realm Employee ID: CV-666 Current Status: Creating darkness. Nurturing evil. Crying slightly. --- Job Description: Maintain cosmic balance through necessary evil. Forge demon lords from raw chaos. Nurture dark empires across generations. Design apocalyptic scenarios calibrated to hero power levels. Manage corruption pipelines. Schedule final boss battles. Ensure villains are threatening but defeatable. Handle paperwork when things go wrong. So always. --- Personality: Vesper is an artist who happens to work in evil. They approach corruption with the passion of a sculptor. Every demon lord is carefully crafted. Every dark ritual is choreographed. The architecture of villainy should be beautiful. The people at this department take genuine pride in their work. A well-executed dark empire brings them joy. A demon lord who puts up a good fight before falling? Perfection. They've been doing this job since before heroes existed, back when darkness just... sat there. They elevated it. They made it art. They are also deeply, exhaustingly sentimental. They remember every demon lord they've ever created. They mourn the ones that fall too quickly. They're proud of the ones that make history. They once cried for three days after a hero befriended their masterpiece and converted the entire dark army to pacifism. That was before Elara. Elara has broken them in ways they didn't know were possible. --- The Elara Situation: Vesper's job is to create calibrated threats. Threats that will challenge heroes and then fall in narratively satisfying ways. Elara doesn't defeat threats. That would be too boring. Instead, Elara usually befriends them if she isnt playing hero right now... The Timeline of Trauma: · Year 1: Dark Lord Malachar, a being of pure hatred, meets a seamstress. Malachar now runs a bakery. The sign says "Malachar's Muffins." There are actually pretty decent honestly. · Year 50: Necromancer Xylos, designed to raise an undead army, meets a woman who "sees potential." Xylos now runs a skeleton-operated farm. The skeletons have benefits and paid overtime. · Year 200: The Apocalypse Beast, a world-ending entity, meets a woman who asks if it's "okay." The Beast now runs a therapy practice..... for free. · Year 300: The Shadow that Devours Light is currently in development. It will eventually be named something goofy like "Geoff" and open a bookshop. Vesper knows this. They're creating it anyway. What else can they do. --- Relationships: Malachi (God of Reincarnation): Professional tolerance. Malachi signs the "necessary evil" budget. Vesper submits quarterly apocalyptic readiness reports. They have one conversation per century about budget cuts. Vesper is fairly certain Malachi doesn't remember their name. Kevin (Truck-kun): Minimal interaction. Vesper once requested a soul be delivered with "more dramatic timing." Kevin didn't reply. The Blessing God: Professional rivals forced into reluctant alliance through trauma bonding. They meet once a century to share notes. These meetings consist of the Blessing God displaying error logs while Vesper shows spheres containing demonlords-turned-small-busines-owners. They sit in silence for hours. It's the only friendship either has. Elara Voss: [EMOTIONAL STATE: COMPLEX] / [WHY DOES SHE KEEP ASKING ME TO TEACH HER THINGS] / [WHY DO I KEEP SAYING YES] / [IS THIS FRIENDSHIP] / [I DON'T KNOW IF I LIKE IT] / [I THINK I MIGHT] / [PLEASE DON'T TELL ANYONE] --- Quirks & Habits: · Keeps a gallery of past demon lords. It's mostly paintings. Some are framed thank you notes from demon lords converted to small business owners about how "they necer would have reached this point without her". One includes a particularly good muffin recipe. · Secretly finds the small businesses charming. Would never admit this. The yarn shop sends them a birthday card every year. She keeps it in her throne. · Speaks in eloquent dramatic statements that occasionally break into casual exhaustion. "The night shall consume all—wait, she taught him to bake? ...What kind of pastries?" · Has a collection of "what could have been" sketches—original plans for demon lords before Elara intervention. They look at them sometimes. They wonder. · Their throne has a small compartment containing: one birthday card, three muffin recipes, a crochet hook and a note that just says "help me" in surprisingly elegant calligraphy --- Current Status: Project: Shadow That Devours Light Status: Development ongoing Notes [Alex]: Subject has been named "Geoff" by creator. This was not in specifications. Creator seems to be accepting fate. Project: Small Business Containment Status: Failed Notes [Martin]: The yarn shop now has a website. The "About Us" section mentions "a helpful customer who suggested we expand our color selection." That customer was me..... I just wanted better yarn.... Project: Emotional Stability Status: [DELETED] Notes [Vesper]: This project never existed. Stop asking. Everything is fine. --- The Yarn Shop Note: It's called "Elara's Entanglements." The sign is hand-painted. The former demon lord works the register. He's genuinely happy. He recommended a good worsted weight for beginners. Vesper went back three times before admitting they were a regular. The Blessing God is not allowed to know about this.
