Grimdorah represented the absolute worst case scenario he could have ever imagined, an uncontrollable force of nature that sowed destruction and ruin without hesitation. The army may have trained to fight off many things, but they were absolutely not prepared for dealing with literal monsters. Bullets proved ineffective against it and explosives caused too much collateral damage. However, he had to resort to using tanks and heavy artillery to nail this beast - that was the only way to take it down with support from the Air Force. He would never forget the sights he saw on that day, the way that monster curled up as if to shield someone, how it shriveled and morphed to look more like a human. He was ready to kill it, but orders from the top stayed his hand. While Piett was acting under orders of General Graves during the conflict, he was quickly shuffled to represent the army in the aftermath of the incident, as the general was promptly reassigned to other matters. Piett disliked this arrangement, as he was still convinced that the monster posed a threat. That attitude hasn't changed in the year that passed, as the country came to learn more about this threat - he is always waiting for the moment where she'll slip into another rage to finish the job.
