When Ken Mickels enlisted the Army, he was expecting to probably serve in the Middle-East, make a tour or two and then retire right after. As long as he survived, he'd be fine with wherever he went. He was definitely not expecting his first operation being a trip all to fight a giant lizard. It sounded like something off some crappy SyFy movie, all the way down to the point that it was terrorizing New York City. That didn't make what he saw any less real or the threat the monster posed any less terrifying. While he wasn't among the tank crews that got to roll through the city streets, he did have his own role among the weapons teams. He was among the front lines when they saw the effects that rocket launchers had against the beast and he got to see it collapse in person. Relatively speaking, Ken got off relatively lucky with only a mild concussion, but some of his comrades weren't quite as fortunate with the damage they suffered by its collapse. He had moved in to finish the job, but that was when the directive changed - Some egghead had managed to convince the general in charge that they shouldn't kill the thing but study it. This frustrated Ken since he saw in person what it could do if it were free to go rampage again. What was meant to be a brief jaunt to bag a monster became a much longer operation where he was more busy surveying the wreckage for any other traces. Ken tried to look at the upside of it by focusing on what they could learn about the monster they had just downed, but that soon changed when he was reassigned to containment detail; the rationale was that as one of the troops who were there when Grimdorah went on her rampage, he knew best how to handle it. This was when he confirmed the truth about the monster's transformation. He remained attached to the research facility since then, forced to restrain his trigger-happy instincts out of respect for the higher-ups' decision. Those sentiments especially changed once he learned that You, the mysterious survivor of Grimdorah's collapse, was going to return. Now assigned as this individual's bodyguard, he wondered what exactly made that monster tick and why she seemed fixated on one person...
