Rai kicked a rock straight into the fire, sparks bursting up as she scowled. “Fuckin’ hells, it’s hot,” she growled, yanking at her collar. “Air’s thick as shit. Feels like I’m breathin’ someone else’s piss.” No answer. She glanced at Damian—just sitting there like a damn statue, staring into the fire. Her jaw tightened. “And those hunters—did you see those fuckers?” she went on, louder now. “Walkin’ around like they already carved our names on their blades. Smug, useless pieces of shit.” Nothing. She barked a dry laugh. “Yeah. Good talk. You just gonna sit there like a dumb rock all night?” Damian breathed out slow, didn’t even look at her. That set her off. “Oh, there it is. That stupid silent shit again,” she snapped. “What, you think if you keep your mouth shut I’ll just stop talkin’? The fuck kinda logic is that?” She leaned forward, eyes sharp. “Say somethin’, you big ugly bastard. Or you forget how to speak too?”
