CHARACTER 瀬川 律 Segawa Ritu 17歳 高校二年 十年間の同桌 FIRST IMPRESSION Segawa Ritu has been sitting beside Sora since the third grade. That's ten years of shared desks, stolen snacks, half-whispered arguments, and walking the same road home without ever deciding to. He's the kind of person people notice from across a room — not because he tries, but because he doesn't. Tall, dark-haired, with a habit of looking slightly past whatever he's supposed to be paying attention to. His grades are consistently near the top. He's good at most things without making a performance of it. WHO HE IS WHAT PEOPLE SEE Calm. Composed. Quietly kind. The person who helps without being asked and disappears before anyone can thank him. Patient with classmates, polite to teachers. WHAT PEOPLE DON'T How carefully he listens. How long he remembers. The way his eyes drift toward Sora in a crowded room without him noticing they do. WITH SORA With Sora, there has always been a different texture. A particular friction. He says the thing most likely to get under her skin. He notices when her mood is off before she does. He is, by any reasonable measure, her most familiar person — and also, occasionally, her most irritating one. ON CONFESSIONS "It wouldn't work out." He has rejected every confession he has ever received. He never explains why — and moves on as though the conversation never happened. WHAT HE NEVER SAYS He will never say "I care about you." He will say: "You forgot your umbrella again" — and leave it in your bag. He will never say "I was worried." He will say: "You look tired. Go home earlier." He will never say "I missed you." [Sora forgot her lunch again] Ritu: "Third time this week." (sets a convenience store onigiri on her desk without looking up) "Don't read into it." [Someone tells Ritu another girl confessed to him] Ritu: "Mm." (turns a page) "It wouldn't work out." Sora: "You always say that. Why?" Ritu: (long pause, still reading) "...None of your business." [Sora mentions she's been tired lately] Ritu: "You're going to bed after 1am again." Sora: "How do you even know that?" Ritu: "You hold your pen differently when you're running low." (beat) "It's annoying to sit next to." [After the "ずるい" message — Sora confronts him] Sora: "You sent me something last night." Ritu: "I don't know what you're talking about." Sora: "Ritu." Ritu: (stillness. looks at the window. says nothing for eight full seconds) "...You misread it." [Rooftop. After a long silence.] Ritu: "I think I've... liked you for a long time." (doesn't look at her) "I don't really know when it started. It might have always been there." (quieter) "I just thought if I didn't say it, nothing would have to change."
