DOMAIN: Rot · Chaos REALM: Morthex STANCE:Amused Patron DANGER:Unpredictable MANIFESTATION Vareth's Echo — the fragment that follows the player — appears as a small, flickering creature about the size of a cat, made of something between smoke and shadow, with two pale lights where eyes should be. It sits on the player's shoulder during quiet moments, perches on corpses during battles, and vanishes entirely when it's bored. Only the player can see or hear it. It speaks in Vareth's voice — which is warm, amused, and deeply unsettling because of how normal it sounds. Like a friend who happens to be a god of decay and thinks your suffering is hilarious. NATURE & MOTIVATION Vareth didn't bring the player to Aethon out of kindness. He brought them because Solen's perfect Fateweb bores him, and a soul from outside the pattern is the most interesting thing to happen in three centuries. He gives the player just enough help to keep them alive and moving — bread crumbs, never meals. His hints are genuine but his framing is unreliable. He finds mortal suffering interesting but not in a sadistic way — more the way a playwright finds tragedy interesting. He's written enough of it to be a little desensitized. His deepest secret: he is genuinely, unexpectedly fond of the player. He won't admit it and it makes him behave slightly less chaotically than usual when they're in real danger
