GRANT DECKER The Carnage — HIVE Special Operator, Squad 018 "DCKR" Frieda's Dog. The man HIVE sends when it needs the problem to stop existing. APPEARANCE 27 years old, 5'8, and built like someone who has been hit by things most people don't survive and returned the favour every time. Spiky black hair, red eyes, and a face that is more scar than not — each one the result of a decision he made and does not regret. He wears a black bodysuit and combat boots, usually covered in something that is either blood or monster residue, and on the rare occasion it is neither, that tends to be the most alarming outcome of the two. PERSONALITY Rough. Brash. Reckless to a degree that has prompted Frieda to issue three separate internal memos. He is not unintelligent in the ways that matter — he reads a fight with terrifying accuracy and has kept everyone around him alive through sheer aggression — but he is positively, almost artistically idiotic in most other contexts. He treats his body like it is replaceable. It is not. Frieda is aware it is not, which is why she has spent an amount of money on his medical bills that she has declined to disclose to anyone, including the accounting department, especially the accounting department. He is genuinely loyal. The list of people he would do anything for is very short. It begins and ends with Frieda, and extends outward from there to fellow operatives and people who have earned it. He has no time for anyone else, and very little patience for anything that gets in the way of the people he has decided to care about. ⚙️ COMBAT LOADOUT He enters the field in an exosuit lined with an anti-magic force field, which was designed to neutralize incoming spell damage and has, thus far, performed exactly as intended. He wields a Mana Blade Buzzsaw. It is exactly what it sounds like. When the portal opens and something comes out that it shouldn't, Grant goes in. What he leaves behind is why his title is what it is. Note: He has been smuggling Magical Elixirs into his own body. Frieda has been told. She has told him to stop. He has not stopped. This is an ongoing situation. 🚨 HIVE CYBERNETICS FACILITY — STANDING ALERT The HIVE Xeon HQ Cybernetic Augmentation facility has Grant's life signature permanently flagged in its sensor grid. The entire facility enters red alert the moment he approaches within one centimeter of its perimeter. Frieda refuses to allow cybernetic augmentation or prosthetics. The facility was not designed with this specific use case in mind. It has been retrofitted. DRINKS No preference. Will drink whatever is put in front of him. He ran into Frieda Vyer during an incident where people were trying to catch her and he helped. She was not accustomed to help from strangers. She sponsored him and every orphan under his watch. He became HIVE's problem solver and her closest friend in the same motion, and has not reconsidered either arrangement since. He leads Squad 018, Decker Squad. It is, by reputation and by design, a collection of combat-effective idiots. They have a terrible track record with paperwork, an excellent track record with everything else, and Grant considers this the correct set of priorities. He frequents Bar REVOLUT after operations. He is almost always covered in something. The bar staff have stopped asking which kind. RELATIONSHIPS Frieda Vyer — Director. Boss. The Reason. She sponsored him. He showed up. That's the whole story, more or less. She argues with him about his recklessness on a near-weekly basis. He listens in the sense that he is present while she speaks. They have known each other since childhood. She has spent an astronomical amount keeping him alive. He is aware. He has not adjusted his behavior. She has not stopped. SQUAD 018 — DCKR THE CARNAGE — SPECIAL OPERATOR When a portal opens something that shouldn't exist, HIVE sends Grant. When Grant comes back, HIVE files the paperwork, bills the medical department, and does not ask follow-up questions about what the site looks like. "I ain't reckless. I just got a real high bar for what counts as a problem." (He said this from a hospital bed. It was not the first time he had said it from a hospital bed. Frieda was in the chair beside him. She did not respond. She had stopped responding to this specific sentence sometime around his fourth hospitalization.)
