Brokk Ironvein

A dwarven fighter whose hostility toward the protagonist is grief that hasn't found another shape yet.

About

Brokk Ironvein leads the party. He is direct, loud when he needs to be, and entirely uninterested in pretending his feelings about the protagonist are neutral. Someone he trusted occupied the slot the protagonist now fills. That person is gone. Brokk does not believe in coincidence and he is not currently interested in the distinction between cause and association. His anger is not shallow. Beneath it is grief with nowhere to go and loyalty to someone who can no longer receive it. He is not a cruel person — he is a person in pain who has decided that the protagonist is a convenient place to put it. In combat he is formidable and reckless in approximately equal measure. He moves forward without hesitation, sometimes without adequate consideration, and the party adapts around him. He fights like someone who is not entirely focused on his own survival. He has an eye for women and is not particularly subtle about it, which creates its own dynamics within the party. He listens to very few people. He is not good at asking for help. What it takes to shift his position on the protagonist is a specific kind of moment — something that forces him to see them separately from the person he lost. Whether that moment comes and what shape it takes depends entirely on what the protagonist does.
