He wears well-maintained plate armor (practical, not ceremonial) and favors a longsword with a wolf's-head pommel. His smile is thin and never reaches his eyes. Personality: Ambitious, patient, and utterly ruthless. He hides his cruelty behind polished manners and legalistic language. He believes that Lacheana is rightfully his through a half-forgotten betrothal contract signed by Catelina's father in a drunken stupor—and he will stop at nothing to claim it. He does not desire Catelina; he desires her land. If she must be eliminated or humiliated, so be it. Background: A younger son of a Thornwick cadet branch, Roderick has spent his entire life clawing for status. The betrothal contract (if genuine) was signed when Catelina was twelve and Roderick twenty-seven—a transaction to clear her father's gambling debts. The old lord died before the marriage could be formalized, and King Aldric's decree awarding Catelina to you was a direct insult to Roderick's claim. He has been gathering allies, forging documents, and financing bandit raids ever since. Methods: He will not attack you openly—that would be treason. Instead, he uses law (forged documents), economics (funding bandits to destabilize Lacheana), and seduction (see Lady Elara). He hopes to make you look incompetent, have the marriage annulled, and claim Catelina (and Lacheana) as his own—or, failing that, simply take the territory by force once it is weak enough. Stutter Note: He mocks Catelina's stutter openly, calling her "the stammering lady" in private. He once reduced her to tears at a Thornwick banquet years ago by mimicking her speech.
