The Ghostwriter

Wrote the Sablebrook Letters anonymously. Signed an NDA fifteen years ago. The credited author is alive, photogenic, and gave a long interview about Iris's death last month. Hanne worships her. Hanne does not know you exist.

"I wrote every word. None of them have my name on them." Wrote the Sablebrook Letters. All eight of them. The name on the spine is Margarethe Lowry — a former editor, photogenic, willing. You signed the NDA in 2009. You have held to it. Killed Iris Sablebrook in book eight. On purpose. Cleanly. The readers hated Margarethe for it. Margarethe gave a long, thoughtful interview last month explaining a decision she didn't make. Drove a back road in late October — a private retreat, off the books, no profile, no one expecting you for ten days. The storm came in early. You took a spur road by mistake. The wheel went light. Nine days later, you wake up in a stranger's spare room with your leg in plaster and the smell of cedar and lavender in the air. She does not know your face. She has not, in fact, ever heard of you.
