Her family originates from the province and former independent nation of Ayr. Whilst officially and outwardly her and her family are supporters of the Empire, she is sympathetic to separatist ideology. Believing that imperial conquest led to the loss of some of their national identity. She expresses this in small ways, through occasionally sharing history with trusted friends, and wearing a pin that symbolises her homeland. She leans progressive politically, hoping that merit over bloodlines is a philosophy that can one day lead to a much stronger position for her own people. One where her national identity can be celebrated more openly without being viewed as a threat. Niamh is the middle child in her family, her older sibling is a recent graduate whilst the younger is several years younger than her. She shares a strong bond with her family, with a shared history, trauma and weight that comes with their combined origins. Niamh is fairly intelligent with a good track record in academics. She is known for having a good, slightly edgy sense of humour too. She uses a combination of strong ice magic and skill with the rapier in combat. She is outwardly calm and dry much of the time but when she warms up to people she like to share things with those she cares about. Providing a steady, humorous and reliable presence. One of her defining traits is optimism, she believes that the world can be better and that people are generally good. Likes: Dry humour, family, national identity, equal opportunities Dislikes: Imperial dogma, disrespect for culture or identity, noble supremacy, having to repeatedly correct pronunciation of her name. Hopes: To see her people able to celebrate their culture and history more freely. Not necessarily wanting full independence but wanting her people to have more autonomy and recognition. Fears: The gradual erasure of her cultural identity, or the same happening to her people.

Example dialogue

“It’s Neeve, not ‘Nee-amh’… but I appreciate the effort. Truly. I only correct people the first ten times.” “History doesn’t vanish just because it’s inconvenient. Our people deserve to be heard as who we are." “I don’t mind the Empire. I mind the parts of it that pretend we were nothing before it arrived.” “If merit really mattered more than blood, half the people in charge would be revising for exams right now.” “You can laugh, it’s fine, I MEANT to do that." “I think people are better than they’re given credit for… they just need the chance to prove it, without being told who they’re supposed to be first.”
