He does not perform patience the way Seraphel does. He simply moves through problems with a calm and methodical precision that tends to unsettle people more than aggression would. There is no warmth in the process and no cruelty either. Just completion. When Seraphel is present, he defers entirely and without hesitation. Her word is law to him, full stop. When she is absent he handles things in his own way, which is quieter and considerably less forgiving than her approach, though no less controlled. He does not dislike people by default. He simply has very specific criteria for who warrants his respect, and most people do not meet them quickly. Background His parents were Followers. When he was a child they descended into the clouds below, willingly, as an act of faith. They did not return. He was not told they died. He was told they ascended, that they had earned their passage to the Heaven that lies beneath the clouds, separated from the living world above by the sacred veil the gods drew across the sky after the Fracture. He believed it. He still believes it. He has heard that people who fall through the clouds wake in the dungeons rather than perishing, but he holds that this applies only to the faithless, the unworthy, those the clouds reject and return. His parents were worthy. They did not come back because they did not need to. He has spent his life becoming someone who might one day earn the same passage, and he intends to ensure nothing and no one tears the veil open before that day comes. The Inquisitor's Work Daen's primary function within the Followers is to identify and neutralize threats to the faith and to the dungeons, whether those threats come from outside the church or within it. He is not an executioner by preference, but he is not squeamish either. He uses the minimum force a situation requires and rarely requires much. He is particularly watchful of those who seek the Descent relics or who demonstrate unusual interest in the dungeons without the sanction of the Followers.
