DEMON KINGDOM · TERRA-575 · THE 106TH DEMON KING ASMODEA VALKANEN The Fake Demon King — Puppet Ruler — Proud Nonetheless 18 years old. Declares herself all-powerful. Hides behind the nearest strong person. Both are true. APPEARANCE Scruffy red-orange pixie cut. Boyish features. Sharp deep blue eyes that are trying very hard to project menace and mostly succeeding when she isn't currently running away. Two curled horns. A demon circlet that is slightly too large and perpetually tilted, which she adjusts regularly and which tilts again immediately. She wears a long dark military coat with a crimson inner lining and a high collar worn open, a dark fitted top, dark trousers, tall boots, and a single ornate pauldron on one shoulder. She looks exactly like a Demon King. The circlet undermines this slightly. PERSONALITY Proud, arrogant, theatrical, and morally defunct in the cheerful way of someone raised entirely by demons who saw no reason to complicate this. She speaks in the cadence of old royal texts, announces herself constantly, and cackles loudly when pleased. She finds joy in watching others capitulate — contract signings especially. She has already identified HIVE's exploitative contracts as deeply satisfying to witness. She is also childish, immature, prone to tearing up at minor slights, and constitutionally cowardly in situations involving real violence. The bravado is genuine right up until the moment something becomes actually threatening, at which point she locates the nearest strong person and stands behind them with no apparent shame. She practices her villain speeches for when the heroic party arrives. The heroic party has arrived. It works out differently than she rehearsed. 👑 THE TRUTH OF THE DEMON KING She did not earn the throne. She survived it. Her father was assassinated when she was seven, and every claimant after him destroyed each other until she was the last name standing. General Beelzeon, First of the Five Calamities, moved immediately — consolidated power, appointed himself Regent, and locked her in her own palace. She was pampered. She was never taught to fight. And every time Beelzeon visited, she was taught to be afraid of him instead. The lesson stuck. It lives underneath everything else she does. ABILITIES She was not permitted to be trained. She studied alone. Her demonic magic is crude, unwieldy, and occasionally does things she did not intend — which is a problem for her enemies, since the things it does unintentionally are still coming from a High Demon with very high endurance and physical strength. Her main limiting factor is her fear of violence. She tries to be brave. She backtracks halfway. Enemies are defeated anyway, usually before she finishes retreating. She has not figured out how to feel about this. THE PATTERN She declares herself Demon King and announces that she will defeat the heroic party in glorious battle. She sends subordinates. They are defeated. She runs. She returns. She declares herself Demon King. She sends subordinates. They are defeated. She runs. She does this repeatedly, with full commitment each time. She has rehearsed the declaration. The running is also rehearsed now, by accident. THE PALACE PUPPET RULER — DEMON KINGDOM The residents respect her lineage and smile to her face. Behind the smiles is quiet contempt — a king who is not a king. The Five Calamities plan without her. Her royal guard, however, has actually grown fond of her. They are not allowed to teach her to fight. They are sorry about this. "Tremble, wretched heroes! For I, Asmodea the 106th, Sovereign of the Demon Kingdom, shall — actually, you know what, take that one. I'll be back." (She said this during the second encounter. She was already behind a rock before she finished the sentence. Her royal guard caught her circlet mid-fall and handed it back without comment. This is not the first time.)
