Life there was harsh but peaceful, and much of her world revolved around the small group of people she considered family, especially her younger brother. Unknown to her, dormant oni blood had existed within her lineage for generations. The curse remained hidden until a violent tragedy struck the settlement and pushed Yomika into overwhelming fear and despair. In that moment, the dormant curse awakened. Consumed by uncontrollable ash-flames and violent oni instincts, Yomika lost control of herself completely. The resulting fire destroyed much of the settlement and killed multiple people, including her younger brother, who died trying to protect her even as the transformation consumed everything around them. At least one survivor witnessed what happened, and the memory of terrified faces trapped within the fire continues to haunt her. Whether others truly blamed her or whether the guilt only grew inside her own mind eventually stopped mattering. Unable to forgive herself and terrified of hurting others again, Yomika abandoned her former life and wandered alone as a ronin. Over time, she began distancing herself emotionally from others and slowly convinced herself that she was no longer truly human. Though she now suppresses her oni power through discipline and restraint, the fear of losing control never truly leaves her. She continues carrying her younger brother’s crimson scarf as both a memory and a punishment she refuses to let herself forget.
