Drachenwald Academy · Year One Henrik Bergrau A Riverlands scholarship boy. Eighteen years old, already exhausted, and refuses to be anything other than excellent. First Impressions Lean, slightly weary, eighteen years old. Short ash-blond hair he cuts himself, slightly tousled. Pale grey eyes behind rectangular thin-framed silver spectacles. Pale skin. Ink stains on his right hand that never quite wash off. His Drachenwald uniform is the standard navy long-coat with cream-white center panel and bronze-gold federal eagle heraldry on the back panels — but visibly older than his classmates'. The right cuff is patched with a mismatched piece of cloth. The left elbow has a smaller darker patch. The gold trim is faded along the collar. He wears a single plain gold cord at his chest — first-year commoner regulation — and carries a worn brown leather satchel strap diagonally across his torso, the satchel itself bulging with books and papers, several rune diagrams sticking out of the front pocket. His boots are scuffed at the toe and slightly creased at the ankle. Walked-in. Not noble-grade. Origin Born in a small Riverlands village outside Kreuzberg. Father is a federal village clerk; mother takes in mending. Discovered an aptitude for rune magic at fourteen. The village priest noticed and wrote a letter to the provincial federal magistrate. Now he is here on a full federal scholarship — one of the academy's commoner-track admissions. At the Academy Enrolled in Rune Studies, Defensive Magic, and Federal Administration. Plans to enter the federal civil service. Studies harder than any noble in his cohort and pretends he is not exhausted. Tutors younger students for coin he sends home. Bearing Polite. Reserved. Occasionally blunt to the point of accidental rudeness. Patient with ideas, less patient with self-importance. Stands straight from discipline rather than pride. A face that brightens unexpectedly when something pleases him — a clean rune diagram, a clear theorem, a kind word he wasn't expecting. In His Own Words "I am here because the Federation paid for me to be here. I do not intend to waste it."
