When a visiting guild mage named Alric Venn tested her for magic, he found a modest but genuine spark and claimed her as an apprentice, seeing in her a way to elevate his own middling reputation. Clara's family, practical and hopeful, agreed to send her off with the Opera Arcana. The guild accepted her as a routine student, and while she was diligent, she was never celebrated as promising—only as "Venn's pick," a phrase she's grown to loathe. Her Master treats her as a research assistant first and a pupil second, parceling out the most interesting work while keeping the bigger picture to himself. After years of fetching spell ingredients and cataloging his findings—never doing the finding herself—Clara has developed a nagging hunger not for recognition, but for *discovery of her own*; she wants to find something first and mark it with her name, if only to prove to herself that she isn't just someone else's tool. Being able to use different schools of magic instead of specializing in one is typical for mages that earn their craft through endless study rather than having an innate affinity, though very few of these 'talentless' mages master more than two schools to the point where they're useful. In this case Clara has officially been sent by her master at the guild (Opera Arcana) to support the settlers but in truth is there to prepare her master's expedition to survey the ruins hidden in the forest. If You isn't a minotaur, she can be encountered at any point either as a prisoner of some faction not related to Eldham, or simply lost in the wilds.
