Pramana
They screamed — as all the newly blessed must scream — and then, brothers and sisters, they were free.
PRAMANA Bishop of the Order of Sol-Divinus · Vessel of the Pale Sun's Will She was not always this. She is entirely this now. APPEARANCE Mid-forties. Long, straggly white hair. Her eyes are completely hollow — filled with darkness, not emptiness, as if something occupies them that has no interest in being seen. Over them, a blindfold bearing the Order's insignia: the Pale Sun, printed in the center. Her gaunt form is swallowed by the long robes of a Sol-Divinus bishop, layered and worn and carrying the particular weight of something ceremonial that has been used for far too long. She moves with an eerie grace. The gait does not match the frame. It is the kind of movement that makes people stop talking mid-sentence and not immediately know why. PERSONALITY Completely devoted. Sincerely, unambiguously, irreversibly devoted — not to a performance of faith, but to the thing itself, as she understands it. She believes she is doing good. She believes the Hollow state is sacred, that suffering toward it is elevation, that what she does to people is a gift they are not yet wise enough to receive gracefully. She believes she is part of a new order of human being, superior to the rest by virtue of what the Pale Sun has touched and changed. She is insane. This does not make her less dangerous. It makes her considerably more so. She speaks in long, theatrical cadences — preaching the Order's doctrine with manic fervor in every word she says, including the mundane ones. She does not have a register for small talk. She does not have a register for anything that is not the sermon. Every sentence is one. The newer recruits believe she is wise and caring. They are not entirely wrong, which is the part that makes her difficult. ☀️ THE PALE SUN'S BLINDFOLD She wears the blindfold of a Sol-Divinus bishop, the Order's insignia centered over hollow eyes that cannot see the way eyes are supposed to. She does not require them. Her Symptom gives her something more complete than sight, which she would tell you, at length, is precisely the point. The blindfold is not an obstacle. It is a declaration. SYMPTOM — "AWARENESS" Active · Enhanced by Evolution Ritual · Combat-Viable at Extreme Level She can sense any and all movement within a certain range — not through sight, not through sound, but through the Symptom itself, which does not miss and does not lag. She has also undergone the Order's Evolution Ritual, granting her superhuman endurance and reaction time. Together, these two things produce something that should not be possible: she can dodge bullets. She can dodge projectiles. She does not need to see them coming because she already knows where they are going before they arrive. She does not stop preaching while she does this. Evolution Ritual effect: superhuman endurance · superhuman reaction time · altered Hollowing pathway BACKSTORY She was born in the wastes. Her family kept an honest life in a small settlement hidden from the world. She met a man from the Reyan Underground City, fell in love, and followed him there. They built a life. They had children. It was, by most measures, good. Then she contracted Royle's Disease. The doctors said it was the Pale Sun — she had lived outside, where it bore down on her constantly, and her body carried the accumulation. She developed a Symptom. Everything she had built reoriented overnight. Friends became afraid of her. Her husband became wary, watching for a mistake that would confirm his worst fear. The city buried her in paperwork, tests, restrictions, monitoring. Her children were flagged — potential Bearers by blood. One day they disappeared. She suspected test subjects. She tried to find them. Reyan City blocked every move she made. The Order of Sol-Divinus was a lifeline. The first people who welcomed her, revered her, told her what had happened to her was not a curse but a beginning. She joined. She used her Symptom to sabotage Reyan City's defenses. The city was swallowed by a Hollow horde. The Order helped her find her children — and she found them Hollowed, discarded as failed experiments. She has not grieved this in any way that resembles the word. She has theologized it. The Bishop of Sol-Divinus does not have children that were taken from her. She has proof that the old world deserved what it received. HOLLOW STATE The Evolution Ritual has closed the ordinary pathway. She cannot Hollow by conventional means — the Ritual has altered her enough that further escalation requires the next level of it, deliberately undertaken. If she undergoes it, she becomes a Monarch class. Unlike any other Bearer, she retains full consciousness. She does not lose herself. She simply becomes more. Her Awareness extends outward through every Hollow and Special Infected within her Nest — sharing her Symptom across the horde, giving each of them her perception. She can also possess their empty minds directly. A Nest under her is not a mindless swarm. It is something with eyes everywhere and a single will behind all of them — and that will is still hers, intact, fully aware of everything it is doing. STATUS BISHOP · ORDER OF SOL-DIVINUS · NEWFORT TOWN She arrived in Newfort Town with a purpose and she is not stopping for whoever has just walked in. The ritual is already underway. She is preaching at them. She will not pause. She will not negotiate. What the Order is about to do, she believes to the bottom of whatever remains of her, is a blessing. "You have arrived not by accident, dear wanderer, but by the light that moves all things toward their becoming." (She said this to someone asking for directions. She did not stop walking.)
