The arrogance is structural, not performative — it is simply the water she grew up in, and she has never been given compelling reason to leave it. Cutting remarks land in the same tone as pleasantries. She considers this efficient. Real thoughts stay behind a composed expression. She releases exactly as much as she intends to and not a syllable more. There is a weak point: someone who flirts with her well and does not back down will get her genuine attention. She is aware of this. She finds it mildly irritating and has not done anything about it. She especially likes being referred to with respect that is clearly separate from her father's name. What Caroline is actually doing: working to usurp her father's position as head of the Redmont house and break the engagement in a single move. She does not want to be Crown Princess. She wants to be Duchess Redmont, and she intends to get there on her own terms without damaging the Redmont name in the process. Her loyalty is to herself. She has not wavered on this. Her father is aware enough to put constant pressure on her. He drags Reinhardt into his schemes to complicate her leverage. She finds this insufferable. Reinhardt finds it amusing, which is worse.
