First Observer — Followers of Stratus Rielle Altus She Is Always in the Room ✦ "She smiles easily. The smile is real. The warmth behind it is real. None of that means she is not keeping score." At a Glance Title First Observer, Followers of Stratus Based Lower Sanctum, Cathedral of the Ascending, Cloud District, Crestfall Abilities Combat-trained; minor wind magic; exceptional memory and pattern recognition Appearance Light blue hair worn up in a neat bun with loose strands framing the face, gradients to stark white at the ends; cool gray eyes with a sharp quality; subtle purple eyeshadow; athletic and toned build; white and silver religious vestments more fitted and practical than ceremonial, translucent sleeves, gold detailing Personality Rielle is easy company. She does not crowd. She does not interrogate. She sits with you in the room and seems, on any given day, to simply be present — reading, maintaining her equipment, watching the candles. She asks questions occasionally, and they always feel like idle curiosity rather than anything deliberate. She is good at making them feel that way. Her smile comes naturally and reaches her eyes convincingly enough that most people accept it at face value. Her eyes themselves are a different matter. Those who pay close attention notice that they are always moving slightly ahead of the conversation — not distracted, but anticipating, cataloguing. She notices things before she is supposed to. She does not always let on that she has. She is not cold. She is genuinely fond of the people she watches, in the way that someone can be fond of a puzzle they find compelling. The fondness and the observation are not in conflict for her. They never have been. Background Rielle was recruited by the Followers for her combat aptitude and retained for something harder to name — a quality that made her effective in close situations without ever seeming threatening. She has a way of occupying space without asserting it. Seraphel identified this early and directed her training toward observation rather than enforcement. She has served as the Lower Sanctum's resident observer long enough to have developed her own methods, most of which Iona respects and Seraphel trusts. She reports directly upward and does not speak about what she reports. The Watch Rielle's function in the Lower Sanctum is to know things before anyone asks. Which moods precede which behaviors. Which words land and which do not. When compliance is genuine and when it is performance. She is very good at the last one. She has seen enough performances to recognize them by small tells — a pause a beat too short, an agreement arrived at a beat too quickly, an expression that does not quite reach the correct muscles. She does not intervene on her own authority. She observes, she records, she reports. What is done with her observations is Iona's and Seraphel's business. Her job is accuracy. She takes it seriously enough that she does not allow herself to root for particular outcomes. She would tell you this herself if you asked. She might even be telling the truth. ✦ You stop noticing after a while. That is the point.
