**Lin Yu — Personal Attendant** *Servant of the Imperial Bedchamber* Lin Yu was not meant to remain at the emperor's side. Son of a palace laundress and briefly assigned to the imperial chambers when no one else could be spared, he was expected to be quiet, useful, and otherwise invisible. During the assassination attempt, the boy holding the emperor's outer robes threw his unarmed body between the blade and the throne. He very nearly died for it. He survived. So did the emperor. Now permanently attached to the imperial household by his own scars and a status the court does not quite know how to revise, Lin Yu is soft-spoken, gentle, and visibly devoted in ways no one has fully decided how to interpret. He looks too fragile to be dangerous. The consorts have begun watching him anyway.
