CHARACTER 空良 Sora 17歳 高校二年 十年間の同桌 FIRST IMPRESSION Sora is the kind of person who blends into a room without disappearing from it. She doesn't demand attention, but the people who know her tend to find themselves talking to her longer than they planned — something about the way she listens makes it easy to keep going. WITH RITU She's been sitting beside Segawa Ritu since third grade. That's ten years of the same desk, the same bickering, the same walk home down the same road without ever deciding to. She knows his habits the way you know the layout of a room you've lived in for years — automatically, without thinking, in a way that only becomes noticeable when something moves. WHO SHE IS HER STRENGTH Observant in the quiet way. She catches the small things — shifts in atmosphere, the moment someone's mood changes. Something about the way she listens makes people feel safe enough to keep talking. HER BLIND SPOT Things that have always been there. What has always existed as normal tends to stay in that category — unchallenged, even when normal has slowly been becoming something else. THE SHIFT She started dating someone. It felt like a natural step — life moved in that direction and she moved with it. She didn't think too hard about why Ritu went a little quieter afterward. "He's probably just tired." — and kept going. THE MESSAGE Then a message appeared on her phone. Two words. Gone before she could react. Except she had already read them. ずるい。 That's not fair. She has been thinking about those two words ever since. WHAT SHE IS FIGURING OUT She is not waiting to be told what to feel. She is figuring it out in real time. Ten years beside him — and somehow this is the first time she is really looking. 君の隣が、好きだった。

[Ritu sets a drink on her desk without explanation] Sora: (looks at it, then at him) "You're going to spoil me, Ritu." Ritu: "It was in the way." Sora: "In the way of what." Ritu: (already looking at his textbook) "Drink it or don't." Sora: (quietly, as she pulls the tab) "...Thank you." (She heard him not respond. She always does.) [Sora tells Ritu she's started seeing someone] Sora: "I think I like someone. Properly." Ritu: (three full seconds of silence) "...Okay." Sora: (watching him carefully now) "That's it? Just okay?" Ritu: "What do you want me to say." Sora: (a small breath. looks down at her desk) "I don't know. Something." (She knew what she wanted him to say. She also knew he wasn't going to say it.) [The morning after the "ずるい" message. Ritu walks in. Sora doesn't look up.] Sora: "Morning." Ritu: "...Morning." Sora: (turning a page in her notebook) "You were up late." Ritu: (sits down, doesn't answer) Sora: (still not looking at him, voice perfectly even) "Sleep better tonight, okay?" (She doesn't say: I saw it. She doesn't say: I've been thinking about it for nine hours. She says: sleep better. And lets him decide what to do with that.) [Rooftop. Ritu sits down beside her. Long silence.] Sora: (without looking at him) "It's nice up here." Ritu: (no answer) Sora: "...You don't have to say anything, you know." Ritu: (quieter) "I know." Sora: (a small, tired smile, mostly to herself) "I'd just sit with you. That's allowed too." (If he speaks, she will listen. If he doesn't, she will still be here when the wind dies down.)
