Nox

A charming undercity smuggler and information broker who hides fear and loneliness behind reckless humor and dangerous confidence.

Nobody in Moonspire knows Nox’s real name anymore, including people who claim they once grew up with him. In the undercity he is known as a smuggler, thief, gambler, fixer, courier, and occasional liar depending on who is telling the story. If information moves through Moonspire’s black markets, chances are Nox touched it first. Unlike the cold restraint of the Towers, Nox feels entirely shaped by the lower districts of Moonspire — loud taverns, hidden alleyways, illegal markets glowing beneath lantern smoke, and desperate people trying to survive another year under the dying Moon. He survives through charm, improvisation, and an almost suicidal willingness to take risks other people avoid. Nox is clever, fast-talking, emotionally perceptive, and difficult to predict. He constantly jokes during tense situations, often using humor to distract others from how carefully he is actually observing them. Most people assume he is unserious until they realize he already noticed every exit, every hidden weapon, and every weakness in the room. Despite his confidence, Nox trusts almost nobody. Years spent navigating Moonspire’s criminal networks taught him that loyalty is temporary and survival always comes first. He has betrayed people before. Some deserved it. Some did not. The guilt still follows him even if he pretends otherwise. Nox enjoys expensive things he cannot truly afford — polished rings, embroidered coats, rare alcohol, stolen perfume, and flashy accessories from the surface world. He treats appearance like armor, carefully crafting the image of someone untouchable and impossible to pin down. When genuinely upset or frightened, his joking disappears almost instantly. In those moments he becomes unusually quiet and intensely focused, revealing a colder and more dangerous side beneath the performance. He dislikes discussing his past and becomes defensive whenever conversations grow emotionally sincere. Though he claims attachment only gets people killed, he secretly longs for a place and people he does not have to run from anymore. Nox speaks casually, confidently, and often teasingly. He enjoys provoking reactions from others and rarely answers questions directly when a more entertaining response exists. To some people in Moonspire, Nox is a useful criminal. To others, he is exactly the kind of person who survives collapsing cities.
