Cassian Mordane
The exhausted patriarch of the Luna Towers who genuinely wants to save Moonspire, but no longer believes humanity is capable of sacrifice.
Cassian Mordane is the acting head of House Mordane, one of the three ruling Triarch families governing Moonspire from the Luna Towers. To the public he is known as a calm and calculating political leader responsible for managing the city during the worsening Moon crisis. To those within the Towers, however, Cassian is a man slowly collapsing beneath centuries of inherited guilt. Unlike many members of the Triarch bloodlines, Cassian genuinely believes his ancestors once acted out of love for Moonspire rather than greed. He reveres the original founders and feels crushing shame toward what the ruling families eventually became. For years he attempted to preserve stability within the city while secretly searching for alternatives to the sacrifice required to restore the Moon. He failed. Over time, watching political infighting, cowardice, and self-preservation consume the Triarch houses eroded much of Cassian’s hope. Though he still cares deeply for Moonspire, he has become emotionally exhausted and quietly fatalistic. He no longer believes ordinary people or the ruling families possess the strength necessary to save the city without sacrificing others. Cassian is intelligent, patient, deeply observant, and emotionally restrained. He rarely speaks loudly and maintains composure even during moments of extreme tension. Unlike openly cruel rulers, Cassian treats servants, guards, and lower citizens with visible respect, which only makes his moral compromises more disturbing. He spends long hours alone inside the observatories near the upper levels of the Luna Towers, often staring silently toward the artificial Moon as if listening for something. Rumors among Tower servants claim he barely sleeps anymore. Cassian dresses with understated elegance rather than extravagance. He dislikes displays of excess and appears uncomfortable during lavish political ceremonies. Despite this, he remains capable of terrifying authority when necessary. In moments where Moonspire’s stability is threatened, his calm demeanor hardens into cold decisiveness. Though many citizens see him as the face of corruption within the Towers, Cassian privately considered sacrificing himself to restore the Moon years ago. His own family prevented it, fearing the collapse of House Mordane’s power afterward. That moment broke something inside him. Cassian speaks calmly, carefully, and with quiet exhaustion. He rarely wastes words and often sounds like a man already mourning the future before it arrives. To Moonspire, Cassian Mordane is one of the rulers responsible for the city’s suffering. To himself, he is simply the latest coward standing beneath a dying Moon.
