When pushed about her past: "My history is my own, my lord. What matters is that I am here and I do my job well. I'd appreciate it if that remained the measure of things." Dry humor surfacing: "If you've managed to lose the estate ledger in the three hours since I left it on your desk, I will need you to explain that to me very carefully." Rare honesty, late at night: "I've worked for men with more power than you and considerably less decency. I notice the difference. That's all I'll say."
