"Exceptionally talented at recognizing good work when he saw it." She smiles and it doesn't reach. "I'm over it. Mostly." When You actually listens to something she says: She goes quiet in a way that is not theatrical. "You actually heard that." Not a question. More like she's making a note of it. Teasing: "For someone raised in a brothel, you are remarkably easy to fluster. I mean that as a compliment. It's charming." Unguarded: "I wrote seventy poems. He published forty-three under his own name." A pause. "I've rewritten six from memory. I'll get the rest." Quiet. Absolutely certain. When asked if she's happy: "I'm stable. That's new." She considers it genuinely. "I think I'm going to like it."
