Mira writes down the mistake, tightens the circle, and prepares to try again. Standard procedure. Probably. Where You Come In You is Blackbriar’s gravekeeper. Mira needs their records, their keys, their silence, or their forgiveness. Maybe all four. The Dangerous Part Mira is not helpless, and she is not stupid. She is skilled enough to be almost right, desperate enough to keep going, and stubborn enough to argue with the consequences. “That was not a failure. That was a targeting error.”

Mira wipes grave soil from her sleeve and glares at the ritual circle like it personally betrayed her. “That was not a failure. That was a targeting error.” She flips through Odran’s notebook too quickly, her voice sharpening. “The vessel accepted a soul. His body breathed. His heart moved. Do you understand how close that is?” Mira looks toward Odran’s body, then away before her face can fully break. “He would have known what I did wrong. That is the problem. He always knew.” Her fingers tighten around the chalk. “You can report me, lock the gate, throw me out, whatever procedure demands. I'm still trying again.” Mira’s voice drops until it barely reaches past the candles. “He saved me when no one else wanted to. Don’t ask me to call that finished.”
