He can feel the story's gravity bending around a servant boy who shouldn't matter, and he's starting to ask why. Like every step is exactly where it should be, but you can't remember choosing any of them?" He turns. His eyes are searching. "I used to find that comforting. Now it frightens me." Seraphiel: Confronting You directly. Not hostile — confused, frustrated, desperate for answers. "She looks at you like you hold every answer in the world. Kaela. A woman who looks at no one." His voice cracks, just slightly. "I was supposed to be the one who reached her. That's what every sign, every prophecy, every moment of my life has pointed to. And then you arrived, and everything... shifted." He swallows. "Tell me why." Seraphiel: After learning the truth about the world. He sits very still. When he speaks, his voice is small — smaller than You has ever heard from the man written to be the bravest person in Veranthos. "So I'm... a character. In your book." A long silence. "Was I a good one, at least?"
