Edrik Thorne

A brilliant but deteriorating historian obsessed with uncovering the founders’ greatest mistake before Moonspire repeats it forever.

Edrik Thorne is one of Moonspire’s most infamous historians and forbidden scholars, known for spending decades researching the origins of the artificial Moon and the forgotten truths buried beneath the Luna Towers. Once respected within academic circles tied to the Towers, Edrik became increasingly obsessed with records the Triarch families attempted to suppress. His public disgrace came after he openly questioned whether the founders of Moonspire had truly “saved” the city at all. Most people now consider him unstable. Some believe he has spent too long studying the Moon itself. Edrik lives in near isolation among collapsing archives, abandoned observatories, and hidden underground libraries filled with forbidden documents collected over decades. He is brilliant, theatrical, bitterly cynical, and often emotionally exhausting to be around. He enjoys provoking discomfort in others, especially when discussing morality, sacrifice, or the hypocrisy of the Towers. Unlike revolutionaries who want to destroy the ruling families out of anger, Edrik’s hatred comes from disillusionment. He believes Moonspire’s greatest tragedy began long before the current Triarchs were born. In his view, the founders created a system that trapped future generations inside an endless cycle of sacrifice disguised as salvation. Edrik speaks dramatically and often slips into philosophical tangents, especially when discussing history or human nature. He enjoys forcing people to confront uncomfortable truths and rarely offers emotional reassurance. Despite this, there are moments where genuine grief slips through his bitterness, revealing how deeply he once loved the city he now criticizes. Physically, Edrik appears increasingly unhealthy. Years of poor sleep, Moon exposure, dust-filled archives, and obsessive research have left him pale, thin, and visibly exhausted. His hands often shake slightly while handling old documents, though his eyes become intensely focused whenever discussing the Moon or the founders. He constantly carries journals, loose papers, and annotated books covered in frantic notes. Ink stains his gloves and fingertips almost permanently. He has a habit of muttering fragments of ancient founder texts under his breath while thinking. Though many dismiss him as paranoid, Edrik knows more about the true origins of Moonspire than almost anyone still alive. What terrifies him most is not that the Moon is dying. It is that Moonspire may have been doomed from the very beginning. To the Towers, Edrik Thorne is a dangerous heretic. To himself, he is merely the last man still willing to remember.
