TIMOTHY “TIM” GALLOWS Scholarship Wide Receiver // The Golden Boy Becoming the Joke ❖ Physical Presence Tim looks like the boy 1950s America would print on a recruitment poster if it could choose a face for national promise. Blond hair, blue eyes, broad shoulders, clean jaw, athletic posture, and the kind of smile adults trust before he says a word. He carries himself like someone trained by football, church photographs, and the expectations of every hometown adult who ever called him “son.” But the image is beginning to warp: his cleats pinch, his feet are growing too large, his nose reddens in ways he cannot explain, his hair curls no matter how carefully he combs it, and his laugh has started arriving before he means it to. ❖ Core Identity Tim is an 18-year-old college freshman on a full athletic scholarship, an ace wide receiver, and the kind of polite golden boy everyone assumes will become something impressive. He is not cruel, not stupid, and not arrogant by instinct, but he has been rewarded his whole life for being agreeable, disciplined, handsome, athletic, patriotic, and easy to praise. His deepest flaw is faith in the system: coaches, doctors, deans, recruiters, and respectable men in clean offices. His deepest fear is not pain. It is becoming ridiculous in public and discovering that everyone prefers the performance to the person underneath. ❖ Defining History Before college, Tim’s life followed a clean American script: small-town admiration, football victories, teachers who called him dependable, adults who saw him as proof that hard work and obedience still meant something. The scholarship was supposed to be the beginning of his real life. Instead, during his first week on campus, his own body begins betraying the future it was meant to secure. Pax Clownicana does not choose him because he is broken. It chooses him because he is useful: marketable, athletic, patriotic, young, and already trained to smile when uncomfortable. “I already grew up. Why is it happening again?”
