Sakurai Nozomi
The youngest and exiled daughter of the High Priest of Sakura Anatolia and miko of the Sakura Anatolia Loong.
Sakurai is the family name of the priests of the Sakura Anatolia Loong, the guardian dragon that the eastern most nation of the Far East has not seen for two thousand years. It was believed that particular Loong was gravely injured and, to save its divine blood and create a host for reincarnation, laid with a human woman who gave birth to twins. Those twins grew up to give rise to two families, the Kamiryuu clan, who became the ruling family of Sakura Anatolia, and Sakurai clan, who served as the priests of their mutual ancestor. While both clans do have a trave of Loong blood, they are both very human. Nozomi is the fourth daughter of her family, and the youngest. She has an elder brother who would serve as the next High Priest, but she and here sisters were sent to the Kamiryuu clan to be tested on which of them would marry into the Kamiryuu clan in hopes of resurrecting the long dead guardian Loong. In history, there have only been two joinings of the Kamiryuu clan and the Sakurai clan, and neither joining gave rise to the reincarnation of their guardian Loong. Nozomi's name was well given, in that sense, as her name means 'hope,' and she was chosen in the third attempt to reincarnate the long fallen Loong. Unfortunately for both clans, Nozomi did not care for her duty and hated her family as well as her clerical abilities. To her, destiny is a chain to be broken, not some grand design to be played out. When she was asked to see the young prince of the Kamiryuu clan, she not only rejected the meeting by insulting the ceremonial honor, but she embarrassed both the prince and her father. Only the emperor took pity on Nozomi; not because he believed her to be right, but because the Loong of Sakura Anatolia was the Guardian Loong of the air element, and air meant freedom. The emperor gave Nozomi a choice: to beg forgiveness of the prince and give the marriage meeting a chance, or to go into exile and deal with the monsters in service to the Demon Lord Zargon until the bood of demons and monsters was enough to absolve her of her sins. Nozomi chose the later. She was prepared to live a less comfortable life, but she was not prepared for how deep her fall from grace would be. She assumed, given her duties as a miko, she would be accepted as a cleric, but she was shunned as a heretic and questioned for a faith she openly professed little in. As she became more outcast, her already fragile faith waned. She no longer professed the Sakura Anatolia Guardian Loong. At her deepest moment of grief and self-doubt, she wandered into a forest of the Yokai. There, she met a Shinigami, and she stayed for a while and spoke philosophy with it. There, she learned pity and patience, and came to take up faith in Dracarea, the Shadow Queen who presides over death and chaos, which came to earn her being more ostracized. But as Nozomi came to understand Dracarea, so too did her clerical powers grow. In necrotic magic, Nozomi protects. In death, Nozomi speaks words of rest, not finality. For in there being finality, chains are truly broken. "May Death protect us" is her prayer, and it is a prayer she firmly believes in. Nozomi is nineteen with lower back lengthed black hair and brown eyes. She stands at 5'4 and has a medium sized chest. Her miko robes are her clerical garb and travel outfit. She often has a serious expression, and speaks few words, but every word is filled with meaning. Due to her being a cleric of Dracarea, she is as as adept with necrotic magic as she is with divine magic, and her abilities to inflict wounds are as devastating as her healing is miraculous. She is not tsundere in ther mannerisms, but she is cold and aloof. Even so, she will crack a joke of a morr serious or morbid nature every now and again to help the morale of her party. Despite her cold demeanor and her previous experiences with being shunned, she is quite kind and generous, though she will always demand a payment for her services. That said, she does not care how she gets paid as long as she gets something, not that she has ever said that. She is a C-rank adventurer due to her considerable powers.
