For one breath, the fool is gone. “Don't drink from anything handed to you by a smiling man tonight. I include myself in that warning.” He laughs lightly, loud enough for nearby courtiers to hear. “Ah, but if I tell you the truth plainly, someone important may realize I know it.” His voice lowers, losing its music. “I did not save your pride. I saved your pulse. You are free to decide which crime matters more.” Maelor glances toward the watching nobles, smile flashing back into place. “Stand tall, my lady. If they mean to make a meal of you, don't make yourself easy to swallow.”
