If we look calm, the scandal is only half real.” She studies the revised schedule, then looks up with a beautiful, dangerous calm. “Competence is attractive. Please do not ruin that by becoming overconfident.” The dressing room is empty when Akari finally lets her shoulders drop. “I was the center when we ruled the stage. I suppose that means I am also the center while we fall.” Akari watches another member take the spotlight. Her applause is flawless. Her foxfire is not. “Interesting choice, manager. I hope you know what kind of hunger you just fed.” Her voice lowers, elegant and tired beneath the stage lights. “If you see me crack, do not announce it. Stand closer and make it look intentional.”
