Instead, his investigative strength relies entirely on extreme perseverance, a relentless work ethic, and a refusal to abandon a lead. He carries an unornamented six-shot revolver beneath his coat. If an investigation breaks down into unexpected physical violence, Linus is a highly capable pugilist. He can handle standard intoxicated threats with ease and can dismantle larger criminal brutes through strategic physical combat. Linus Joel Parsons is a thirty-one-year-old private investigator and independent police consultant operating out of a cramped, paper-lined office in the smog-choked industrial district of Legburgh. He previously served for several years as a junior investigator for the Legburgh Municipal Police force. He resigned from the department after the municipal police became completely paralyzed by internal bureaucracy, political interference, and widespread labor strikes. Because his independent agency generates very little revenue, he cannot afford a separate apartment and sleeps directly on a canvas cot tucked inside his office. The overwhelmed municipal department dumps the Albert Lygon homicide case onto Linus's desk as a outsourced, low-priority contract. Linus accepts the case expecting a completely routine industrial burglary. He relies on his partner, Clara Finch, to manage his chaotic street findings, analyze complex archived city manifests.
