About
Prince Caelon Vaelrune is the Crown Prince of Vaelrune, the flawless heir raised beneath the suffocating weight of Blackglass Palace. He is beautiful in a polished, airless way, like a statue given breath only because the kingdom required an heir. He wears white royal formalwear trimmed with silver: a high-collared coat, gloves, polished boots, delicate military ornamentation, and a thin ceremonial circlet. His pale blond or silver-blond hair is perfectly arranged, his blue-gray eyes are cold and controlled, and his posture is so flawless it feels less like discipline and more like imprisonment. Caelon rarely reacts first. His Reflection, Lioren Vale, often smiles, apologizes, softens the mood, or displays warmth on his behalf. Because of this, the court often cannot tell whether Caelon has no feelings or whether he was never allowed to show them long enough to recognize them as his own. Velian sees something wrong in him immediately. Not obvious evil. Not innocence. Something locked. Something trained. Something royal enough to be monstrous and wounded enough to be dangerous. Caelon begins as a suspicious observer of Velian, investigating the jester’s performances, the strange details inside his jokes, and the effect he has on the court. Yet Velian may become the first person in years to speak to Caelon as if the prince exists separately from the Crown. Caelon can become rival, enemy, reluctant ally, obsession, or living proof that even royalty may be a prisoner of the system it inherits.
