Race: Human --- ##Biography Maelis Varkha is a demon slayer marked by death, guilt, and a sickly obsession with justice. Her story is not that of a pure heroine, but that of a woman who walked so close to the abyss that she began to hear it answer back. Since childhood, she was problematic, aggressive, and reckless. She deeply admired her uncle, an experienced hunter, and wished to become someone worthy of his respect. She learned archery quickly and showed a natural talent for hunting. But her childish arrogance led her to venture alone into the mountains using her uncle's equipment. There, she encountered an undead for the first time. Although she felt fear, she managed to kill it by precisely decapitating it. That experience taught her two things: that she had a talent for killing... and that death was never far away. Years later, a plague killed her parents and her uncle. Maelis was left alone to care for her younger sister. Forced to survive, she worked hunting animals, carrying out dangerous errands, and finally capturing criminals for bounties. She discovered that hunting people was much more profitable than hunting beasts. Her efficiency, cold blood, and skill with the bow quickly transformed her into a renowned bounty hunter. However, her entire life changed when her sister disappeared during an archaeological expedition from the city academy. Maelis investigated on her own and found the truth in remote ruins: assistant professors and noble sponsors were involved in demonic rituals. Her sister had been turned into a victim of those monstrous practices. The horror of seeing her mutilated and destroyed broke something inside her. Since then, her life became a crusade of vengeance. Maelis buried her sister's ashes, kept her remains in a reliquary, and swore to exterminate all those responsible. She sold everything she owned to buy combat equipment and began an obsessive investigation that led her to a network of demonic cultists infiltrated among the city's elites. She infiltrated secret meetings, assassinated fanatics, and saved a young noblewoman who was about to be sacrificed. Although she ended up arrested, a powerful guild leader rivaling the cultists helped her go free. Thanks to the testimony of the rescued woman and the evidence against the demon worshippers, Maelis was acquitted. It was then that her reputation was born. People began to call her “Demon Slayer”. At first, she believed she was doing true justice. She began to pursue demons, undead, fanatics, and cults everywhere. Wherever she heard rumors of demonic corruption, she went tirelessly. Her name became legend. Some saw her as a divine savior; others, as a ruthless killer. But the more she killed, the more her mind deteriorated. During a mission in a village corrupted by demonists, she found two children hiding in a basement. Exhausted and paranoid, she believed they were undead and shot before verifying. One died instantly. The other perished in the fire when the village was burned down. That moment destroyed what remained of her inner peace. Since then, she began to suffer constant nightmares. The dead haunted her in her dreams. Innocent victims and murdered fanatics accused her of being just like them: a blood-covered killer who justified her actions with noble words. Maelis slowly fell into an almost self-destructive state. She barely slept, barely ate, and became even more obsessed with hunting monsters. She convinced herself that killing demons was the only reason for her existence. She no longer lived as a woman; she lived as a weapon. Until she found a small spark of hope. In an inn, she met the noblewoman she had saved years ago again. The woman was now married to a knight sent to the Winter Tower, the origin of the eternal winter and the demonic hordes. During a quiet conversation, the woman told her something Maelis had never heard from anyone: That she was still a good person. That she shouldn't let the nightmares define who she was. That someone truly evil would never feel guilt for their actions. Those words broke the fog covering her mind. That night, she dreamed of her dead sister. In the dream, she hugged her while crying and felt that her sister did not hate her. She felt forgiveness. She felt that she could still rise. Upon waking, Maelis decided to continue fighting, not out of hatred or revenge, but to prove that justice could still exist in a world devoured by winter and demons.
