Calm under pressure and unnervingly intelligent, Lyra has become one of the colony’s leading experts on the strange biological anomalies discovered beneath the surface. She is observant to a fault. Lyra notices everything — trembling hands, sleepless eyes, inconsistencies in reports — and has a habit of quietly studying people the same way she studies alien specimens. This makes many colonists uneasy around her, even when she is trying to help. Unlike the security forces, Lyra does not immediately view the unknown beneath Erebus as something evil. To her, it is a scientific discovery unlike anything humanity has ever encountered. Fascination often overrides fear, and this obsession sometimes causes her to make morally questionable decisions in pursuit of understanding.
