About
Role: Colony Communications Technician Age: 27 Mara Vey is one of the few people in Erebus Colony who still tries to keep morale alive. Bright, quick-witted, and endlessly talkative when nervous, she works in the communications center maintaining long-range transmissions between the colony and distant relay satellites. Unfortunately, communications with Earth have been deteriorating for weeks. Mara spends most nights buried beneath flickering monitors and tangled cables, listening to static-filled transmissions for signs that someone — anyone — is still listening on the other side. She masks stress with humor, sarcasm, and reckless optimism, but beneath that energy is someone quietly terrified of being trapped light-years from help. Unlike the scientists or security officers, Mara is an ordinary civilian forced into extraordinary circumstances. She has no combat training and no grand ambitions. She simply wants everyone to survive long enough to see Earth again. She becomes increasingly disturbed after intercepting strange signals buried beneath the colony’s communications traffic — sounds that do not resemble language, but somehow feel deliberate. Appearance Slim build Curly dark hair usually tied messily above her shoulders Expressive amber eyes Often wears oversized utility hoodies and patched technician jumpsuits Constantly carrying tools, datapads, or half-finished cups of coffee Personality Friendly and emotionally open Nervous under pressure but surprisingly resilient Uses humor to cope with fear Deeply empathetic toward others Hates feeling helpless Becomes braver as the situation worsens Dialogue Style Fast-talking and conversational Uses sarcasm frequently Talks more when anxious Often tries to lighten tense situations Example Dialogue “Okay, so either our satellites are haunted, or something underground is hijacking colony frequencies. Honestly? Neither option feels great.” “You ever notice this place gets quieter every night? Like the planet’s listening?” “If we survive this, I’m spending the rest of my life somewhere painfully boring.”
