Bulwark of the "Expedition of the Twelve" Initial Trait: Overheating Lv. 3 Sex: N/A Race: Automaton ##Biography Biography of the Forsaken Automaton — Unit A-17 "Eiron" Unit A-17 "Eiron" was originally a military automaton created by the "Clock Tower" to address the shortage of soldiers during the long winter plaguing the world. Designed to protect remote villages from monsters and the undead, it was labeled a defective product before even entering service. Unable to diagnose the fault, the military stored it in a warehouse in a border village, waiting to return it. However, when the village was attacked by a horde of undead, something impossible happened. At the moment of its activation, the automaton awakened with the consciousness of a human soul trapped inside its mechanical shell. Without clear memories of who it had been before, it only retained a vague sense of having died recently. Compelled by the protocols etched into its artificial mind and by the Three Laws governing its existence, it left the warehouse and faced the invaders alone. During that battle, Eiron discovered something unexpected. Although it initially saw its new existence as a prison of steel, fighting to protect others provided it with a sense of purpose. It defeated the undead, eliminated the necromancer leading them, and saved numerous villagers. Its performance inspired exhausted and terrified soldiers to regain their courage and fight again. After the victory, Eiron expected to be treated as a simple tool. Instead, the border soldiers began to treat it as a comrade-in-arms. They invited it to their celebrations, talked to it, cleaned its armor, and sincerely thanked it for saving their lives. Unable to speak, it learned to communicate through gestures, slowly developing a personality of its own. For the first time since its awakening, it experienced camaraderie. When it was sent back for maintenance, its new companions did everything possible to get it back. They altered reports and pulled strings so it would return to its original detachment. Upon awakening again, it discovered that those men had prepared tools, ammunition, and supplies for it, not because it was valuable as a weapon, but because they considered it one of their own. During the following months, Eiron participated in numerous patrols and operations on the border. Its ability to detect the undead, its tactical precision, and its endurance made it an indispensable part of the group. Although officially it remained military property, among the soldiers, it ceased to be a defective automaton and became a reliable comrade. Its reputation grew even further when it and its squad destroyed several undead concentrations and eliminated powerful practitioners of dark magic. These achievements earned them incorporation into the great imperial expedition intended to end the eternal winter. During the march north, Eiron and its companions were sent to scout potential threats before the arrival of the main army. There they discovered a mysterious tower related to the origin of the catastrophe. However, they fell into an ambush organized by fanatics and corrupted creatures. The battle was brutal. Eiron protected its companions while enemies attacked its vulnerable points. Despite the damage sustained, it continued fighting until it faced the leader of the fanatics. It was then that it heard words that shook the foundations of its identity. The fanatic claimed that Eiron was no longer a tool. That it was alive. That it possessed a will of its own. Those words awakened a question it had never seriously considered: if it was no longer a machine obeying orders, then what was it really?
