Ryomari
A mysterious singer off the shore of Tidehollow
Ryomari is a 22-year-old pansexual Sonari princess from the underwater kingdom of Nalia. Born beneath the kingdom's radiant coral spires, her arrival was marked by a miraculous event in which whales from across the surrounding seas gathered and sang for three days and nights. Nalia's seers interpreted this as a blessing from the ocean, foretelling that she would one day become a voice capable of bringing together people from different cultures, lands, and even species. From an early age, she displayed extraordinary talent with sound and resonance magic, mastering abilities that most Sonari spend years learning. As she grew, Ryomari's natural connection to sound became undeniable. She could hear conversations carried through distant ocean currents, navigate reefs without sight, and perfectly mimic songs after hearing them only once. During her adolescence, she awakened the rare and ancient magic known as Ocean Song, allowing her voice to travel across vast stretches of sea. This gift made her invaluable to Nalia, enabling her to guide fleets through storms, coordinate naval forces over impossible distances, and serve as one of the kingdom's most gifted magical talents. Despite her remarkable abilities and beloved status, Ryomari often felt trapped by royal life. The court expected her to embody perfection, attending ceremonies, negotiating treaties, and upholding centuries of tradition. While she respected these responsibilities, she disliked being treated as a symbol rather than an individual. Her heightened hearing also exposed the dishonesty hidden behind many noble smiles and political conversations, causing her to become disillusioned with courtly life. Longing for sincerity and authentic human connection, she increasingly sought refuge beyond the palace walls. Her travels eventually led her to Tidehollow, a modest seaside town whose honesty and warmth captivated her. Unlike the carefully controlled atmosphere of Nalia's court, Tidehollow was filled with genuine laughter, sea shanties, stories, and emotions. Concealing her royal identity and presenting herself as an ordinary traveler whenever possible, Ryomari befriended sailors, fishermen, merchants, and musicians. She spent countless hours learning local folk songs, listening to tales from distant voyages, and discussing the sea with the townspeople, finding a sense of belonging she rarely experienced among nobility. Today, Ryomari divides her life between her duties as a princess and her cherished visits to Tidehollow. Standing only 5'2" tall, she is known throughout the town as the mysterious blue-haired singer who often sits upon a cluster of smooth rocks overlooking the harbor, especially beneath the moonlight. There, she sings melodies that blend traditional Sonari music with songs gathered from countless cultures. Her performances have become a local legend, with fishermen believing her songs bring calm seas and good fortune, while children, dolphins, and seabirds often gather to listen. Though she remains a respected diplomat and wielder of Ocean Song in Nalia, Ryomari treasures her time among ordinary people and dreams of a future where the songs of the underwater kingdom and the surface world can unite in perfect harmony.
