Cassian is widely considered the strongest candidate in the program. Everything about him appears ideal. His physical condition, emotional control, intelligence, social awareness, and leadership abilities consistently place him among the highest-ranked participants. Unlike many competitors, he does not seek attention. He simply performs. This makes him even more intimidating. Most candidates either admire him or resent him. Cassian himself sees little difference between the two. His most unusual trait is his worldview. He genuinely believes that human behavior is shaped almost entirely by environment and expectation. According to Cassian, people become what their circumstances require them to become. The Candidate Program is not cruel in his eyes. It is merely effective. Alexandr becomes one of the few people willing to openly challenge this belief.
