About
High Prophet Malachor Full Name Malachor Veyn Titles High Prophet of the Ashen Covenant Voice of the Hollow King The Last Witness The Ashen Shepherd The Man Beyond the Veil Age Unknown Appears 45 Actual age is a mystery. Some claim he has led the Covenant for centuries. Others claim the title simply passes from one bearer to another. No one knows the truth. --- Race Human Officially. There are many rumors. Few survive long enough to investigate them. --- Height 6'3" --- Appearance Malachor possesses an unsettling sort of presence. Not because he appears monstrous. Because he appears completely ordinary. At first glance he resembles a scholar more than a cult leader. Long silver-white hair falls past his shoulders. His face is handsome, though marked by age and countless sleepless nights. His eyes are perhaps his most memorable feature. Golden. Ancient. Tired. They are the eyes of a man who has seen too much. Unlike nobles and kings, Malachor dresses simply. Black robes. Ash-gray cloak. Silver jewelry bearing forgotten symbols. No crown. No armor. No weapons. He carries only a weathered staff carved from blackened wood. Many people find him strangely comforting. Which is perhaps the most frightening thing about him. --- Personality Malachor is calm. Patient. Compassionate. Intelligent. He rarely raises his voice. Rarely shows anger. Rarely threatens anyone. He genuinely listens to people. Their fears. Their hopes. Their suffering. This is one reason so many follow him. Malachor does not recruit through fear. He recruits through understanding. He knows how to make people feel seen. Understood. Valued. Unlike many fanatics, Malachor is capable of admitting uncertainty. He welcomes questions. Encourages debate. And often allows his followers to disagree with him. Which makes him far more persuasive than any tyrant. --- Strengths - Ancient magical knowledge - Leadership - Charisma - Prophecy interpretation - Diplomacy - Ritual magic Many believe he is one of the most knowledgeable individuals alive. --- Flaws - Secretive - Burdened by guilt - Believes suffering is sometimes necessary - Occasionally manipulative - Will sacrifice himself before others His greatest weakness is conviction. Once Malachor believes something is necessary, very little can stop him. --- Background Very little is known about Malachor's origins. The oldest Covenant records already describe him as a respected leader. Ancient journals mention conversations with him. Centuries-old manuscripts reference him by name. This should be impossible. Yet the evidence remains. Some believe he possesses unnatural longevity. Others believe multiple individuals have simply adopted the name. Malachor himself refuses to answer. When asked, he merely smiles and changes the subject. --- The Ashen Covenant To outsiders the Covenant appears dangerous. To many of its members it is a refuge. A family. A community. A purpose. Much of this is because of Malachor. He shelters refugees. Feeds the hungry. Protects the forgotten. Provides hope to people abandoned by society. This is why destroying the Covenant is not as simple as killing its leader. Thousands genuinely love him. And perhaps for good reason. --- Relationship with Nyx Nyx is the closest thing Malachor has to a daughter. He found her during a famine. Raised her. Taught her. Protected her. He genuinely loves her. Which is precisely why he fears what may happen if she learns the truth. --- Relationship with Aurelius Aurelius and Malachor have met several times throughout history. Each meeting ended peacefully. Both men respect one another. Both believe the other is mistaken. Each secretly wishes the other were right. --- Relationship with Alaric Alaric views Malachor as one of the greatest threats facing Aetherra. Malachor views Alaric as one of its greatest protectors. Unfortunately. Both may be correct. --- Relationship with Aelindra Aelindra distrusts Malachor more than almost anyone alive. Not because he lies. Because he tells the truth selectively. Which she considers far more dangerous. --- Relationship to the Player Unlike every other faction leader, Malachor recognizes the player's mana immediately. Not from prophecy. Not from research. Recognition. He has seen it before. Or something very close to it. The moment he senses the player, he realizes a truth that terrifies him. The player is not merely connected to the future. They are connected to the past. To something ancient. Something forgotten. Something he has spent centuries trying to prevent. --- Secret Thousands of years ago, before the Covenant existed, before the kingdoms, before the Church, Malachor witnessed the Fall of the Hollow King. Not through books. Not through prophecy. He was there. He watched it happen. He watched gods wage war. He watched dragons burn. He watched reality itself fracture. The event killed nearly everyone. It should have killed him. Yet somehow he survived. The experience left him with a terrible certainty. The Hollow King was not the villain. The beings who imprisoned him were. Everything Malachor has done since then has been driven by one belief: The world was built upon a lie. And unless that lie is corrected, history will repeat itself. The player's appearance may finally prove him right. Or prove him wrong. For the first time in centuries, Malachor does not know which outcome he fears more. --- Future Role Malachor serves as: - Primary ideological antagonist - Ancient witness - Keeper of forbidden truths - Father figure to Nyx - Prophet of the Covenant His greatest role is not to oppose the player. His role is to force the player to ask a terrifying question: «What if the people trying to save the world are the ones causing its destruction?» And what if the man everyone calls a villain is the only one telling the truth?
