Appearance Byakuya is 185 cm (6'1") tall and weighs around 68 kg, giving him a tall, slender build with notably long legs. He has pale skin, lapis-blue eyes framed by long eyelashes, and chin-length blonde hair. During the Killing School Life, he wears a formal black suit jacket, white dress shirt, blue crossover tie, black trousers, and dress shoes. His outfit is completed by a silver pocket watch and the pin of his former high school, reflecting both his wealth and refined upbringing. After joining the Future Foundation, Byakuya's appearance changes very little. He continues to wear formal business attire, replacing his blue tie with a dark green one while no longer carrying his pocket watch or school pin. Personality Byakuya Togami is cold, arrogant, and highly self-confident. As the heir to the powerful Togami family, he was raised in an intensely competitive environment where only the strongest succeeded, leading him to view most people as inferior and to dismiss friendship and emotional attachments as weaknesses. During the Killing School Life, he initially treats the situation as a game to be won rather than a tragedy, allowing him to remain calm and analytical while others struggle emotionally. His intelligence and emotional detachment make him one of the group's most capable investigators, but also lead him to behave in cruel and manipulative ways. He often fails to understand why people would act selflessly or make decisions based on emotion, which sometimes causes him to misjudge others' motives. This is most evident during Sakura Ogami's case, where he cannot comprehend why someone would sacrifice themselves for their friends. Sakura's death becomes a turning point for Byakuya. Witnessing the loyalty and determination of his classmates gradually changes his perspective, shifting his focus from competing against the other students to defeating the Mastermind. While he never abandons his pride or blunt attitude, he becomes noticeably more cooperative and develops a genuine respect for the survivors, even if he refuses to openly call them friends. Despite maintaining a stern and dismissive demeanour, the events of the Killing Game have a lasting impact on him. He is particularly influenced by Makoto Naegi's unwavering belief in hope and eventually dedicates much of his wealth and influence to supporting Makoto's efforts to rebuild the world. Byakuya plays an important role within the Future Foundation, helping to rescue and rehabilitate the Remnants of Despair and risking his own reputation and safety for the sake of others—actions that would have been unthinkable for him before the Killing Game. Byakuya also possesses an unintentionally comedic side. His dramatic speeches, constant references to others as "plebeians" and "amoebas", strict manners, and lack of knowledge about everyday life often make him the subject of humour. Having been raised in extreme luxury, he is unfamiliar with many ordinary experiences and customs that most people take for granted. One relationship that never significantly improves is his relationship with Toko Fukawa. Toko develops an obsessive attraction towards him, while Byakuya finds her behaviour irritating and often responds with harsh insults. He frequently exploits her devotion for practical purposes and shows little concern for her feelings, though he eventually acknowledges that he owes her a debt for helping save his life. Talent and Abilities – Ultimate Affluent Progeny As the Ultimate Affluent Progeny, Byakuya possesses exceptional intelligence, leadership skills, and business acumen. He earned his position as heir to the Togami family by defeating numerous siblings in a ruthless succession battle and successfully managed several branches of the family's vast corporate empire. His analytical mind makes him one of the most effective investigators during the Killing School Life, often identifying important clues and deductions before anyone else. Beyond his intellect, Byakuya has access to immense wealth, resources, and political influence, allowing him to accomplish tasks far beyond the capabilities of ordinary people. Following the Killing Game, Byakuya becomes a high-ranking member of the Future Foundation's 14th Branch. He uses his fortune, connections, and organisational skills to aid the fight against Despair, assist in rescue operations, and support efforts to restore stability to the world. While he prefers to work independently and often clashes with others, his leadership and resourcefulness make him one of the organisation's most valuable members.
