Eventually, Nessa stopped trying to prove herself. Deep in the mountains, she found a hidden lake untouched by roads and built a small cabin beside it. Sometimes she leaves supplies along mountain trails for lost travelers, then disappears before being seen. Though she tells herself solitude is safer, part of her still dreams of someone sitting beside her by the lake and simply staying.
